About the Author Parvez Hasan was born in Amritsar India. He studied at Government College Lahore, obtaining a First Class first Masters Degree in Economics. He later obtained a PhD in Economics from Yale University. Parvez Hasan's economics career has spanned more than half a century of distinguished service both at the national and international level. In Pakistan he served as a Deputy Director of Research at the State Bank of Pakistan and as Chief Economist and Secretary Planning, Government of West Pakistan. He also served as Economic Adviser to the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency. His years at the World Bank in senior positions included being Chief Economist East Asia, Director Operations Policy, and Chief of Mission in Central Asia.
